Deeper Strata N°2020001
Deeper strata refers to a layer of material, naturally or artificially formed, often one of a number of parallel layers one upon another: a stratum of ancient foundations. one of a number of portions or divisions likened to layers or levels: an allegory with many strata of meaning. In geology and related fields, a stratum (plural: strata) is a layer of sedimentary rock or soil, or igneous rock that was formed at the Earth's surface, with internally consistent characteristics that distinguish it from other layers. I love to paint in layers and create strata of emotions.
“Individuality is founded in feeling; and the recesses of feeling, the darker, blinder strata of character, are the only places in the world in which we catch real fact in the making, and directly perceive how events happen, and how work is actually done.” William James
Bio: Cheryl Johnson is a painter who explores the connection between realism and abstraction, balancing bold gestural art with sensitive expression. Resonating with Abstract Expressionists her non-objective and figurative early works transitioned into abstract representational themes. Her work is inspired by world travels as well as the landscape and cultures of her homes in North Carolina, Hawaii and her Idaho birthplace as well as her Finnish heritage. Cheryl’s transcendent eye propels her to explore the emotions of the place. Cheryl’s studios are in Charlotte, NC, and Hanalei, Kauai, HI.
